"Broken Bicycles"은 톰 웨이츠가 음악을 맡은
코폴라 감독의 영화 <One from the Heart>(1982)의 수록곡이다. 음악에서 시로 전이되는 상상력의 가지 치기를
잘 보여주는 작품 하나를 소개한다. 권혁웅 시인이 톰 웨이츠의 노래에서 시적 상상력을 피워냈다.
"9월은 6월을 생각나게 하네"
아, 톰 웨이츠 그는 시인이다.

고장 난 자전거, 낡아서 끊어진 체인
손잡이는 빗물에 녹슬어 있었네*
고장 난
자전거, 한때는
모든 길을 둥글게 말아 쥐고 달렸지
잠시 당신에게 인사하는 동안에도
자전거는 당신의 왼쪽 볼을
오른쪽 볼로
바꾸어 보여주었네
자전거는 6월을 돌아 나와
9월에 멈추어 섰지
바퀴살 위에서 햇살이 가늘게 부서지네
내가 그리는
동그라미는
당신이 만든 동그라미를 따라갔지
우리는 한 번도 멈추지 않았지만
계절은 곧 바뀌었네
고장난 자전거, 9월은

뜯어진 안장은
걸터앉았던 나를 모를 테지만
